India is rich in minerals and iron ores. Top 10 Iron Ore Producing States in India [States with Highest Iron Ore Production]
Odisha is the largest iron ore producer from Indian market. As of the 2017 records, the state itself produced about 99,614 mt (‘000 tonnes) iron ore from its own mines. The government’s respective measures to improvise production made it possible to achieve beyond targets. Overall, the state’s contribution is 50.8% of its total iron ore production.
Chhattisgarh is second in the calculation of top states in India based on iron ore production. The overall production calculated has been 17.2% compared to the other states of India with a production of 31,068 (‘000 mt).
The third largest in iron ore production is Karnataka. The place is also prominent in the production of various other minerals and commodities. The total collection of iron ore production by Karnataka has been 14.3%, which is 26,363 (‘000 mt). Haematite is also majorly produced in Karnataka and Orissa.
Jharkhand is in fourth position of its iron ore production.The state managed to produce 10.8% of iron ore as of 2017 records, which in figure was 21,335 (‘000 mt). Thus, it is equally enjoying the limelight in the top states in India based on iron ore production.
Goa’s iron ore production is about 4%, with a production of 8,933 (‘000 mt). Haematite is also found in Goa and produced majorly. It enjoys being the fifth major producer of iron ore in India leading a few others.
6. Andhra Pradesh:
Andhra Pradesh produces more of Magnetite and Haematite type of iron ore. They have a major contribution in India’s iron ore production too. We have four more names in the list of 10 largest iron ore producing States of India.
Maharashtra also enjoys equal prominence in iron ore production. The state is known to produce Haematite type of iron ore along with Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Goa, Kerala, and many other leading states.
Other than iron ore, Haematite is widely found in different areas of Rajasthan too. Thus, the state is ranked as the eighth major iron ore producer in India.
9. Tamil Nadu:
Haematite resources are based in areas of Tamil Nadu too. All the major states mentioned above along with Tamil Nadu contribute to 12317.3 thousand tonnes to India.
Along with Rajasthan, Karnataka, Goa, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu, Kerala has enjoyed equal importance in iron ore production. The best quality of Magnetite is also produced in Kerala.
