An Essay on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao for Students, Kids and Children

Beti Bachao Beti Padhao

There has been a skewed sex ratio prevalent in India in many states. For every 1000 boys there were just 918 girls as per a census survey in 2011. This discrepancy amongst boys and girls arose because of the disturbing practice of female infanticide. Most people consider girl child to be an ill omen, a financial burden and a big responsibility which they don’t wish to shoulder. People used to make use of diagnostic techniques to find out about the sex of their unborn child and abort if the foetus was a female.

To remove this disparity and to save female child from death in the womb, Government of India had introduced the BetiBachao, BetiPadhao (BBBP) Scheme in October 2014. The program was officially launched on 22nd January 2015 from Panipat, Haryana by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Along with Rajasthan, Haryana has the worst ratio of boys to girls. Sakshi Malik, Olympics Bronze medalist was appointed the brand ambassador of this mission in Haryana.

2. Protection of girl child and ensuring her safety.
3. Guaranteeing the education of the girl child.

Strategies employed to ensure success of BBBP scheme

The government has taken many steps to ensure the success of this initiative. Some of the strategies undertaken are as follows:

  • Initiation and implementation of the scheme through sustained efforts by social media.
  • Involvement of prominent Indian leaders and achievers from different fields to prevent female foeticide.
  • Making the public aware of the discrimination and help them participate in this drive
  • Focusing initially and primarily on areas where gender discrimination is more prevalent.
  • Involvement of workers at grass-root levels to catalyse changes in the perspective of people.
  • Wavering of delivery charges apart from monetary incentive to parents on the birth of girl child.

Free education for the girl child as well as other schemes introduced by the Government, are meant to serve as an incentive for prospective parents to not discriminate against the girl child.
